20 Fun Things to Do in Fowey in 2020

If you are pondering where to holiday in 2020 then look no further! From messing about on the river to relaxing in the spa, Eden Session gigs to sailing events- there sure is something for everyone in Fowey. Check out some of these ideas for things to do in and around the hotel and Fowey in 2020.

1. Check out our new look hotel from 14th February

Fowey Hall re-opens the doors after its extensive refurbishment program on Friday 14th February, just in time for Valentines Day and the February half term! February is a great time to explore Cornwall, experience a different side to the summer rush and let your children roam free on empty, sandy beaches, fly kites and get your little explorers to try rock pooling and crabbing! You can even get your skates on and go ice skating at the Eden Project or enjoy a toddler ice play session throughout February for children aged between 18 months and 5 years.

2. Cornish Pasty Week

It's Cornish Pasty Week from 23rd February – 29th February 2020. The humble pasty will be celebrated throughout Cornwall and across the country, culminating in the ‘Oggy Oscars’ the ninth-annual World Pasty Championships at the Eden Project.

3. Fowey Food Week

Fowey Food Week takes place from 7-14th March. An exciting weeklong event brought to you by the Fowey Chamber of Commerce, designed by Fowey's talented chefs to showcase their talents using the amazing range of Cornish produce we have on our doorstep.

4. Me time

Down time for parents is definitely on the menu (well all adults really) – sit by the fire with a book, enjoy a peaceful massage, indulge in a cocktail and candlelit meal – bliss!

5. Tots come Too

Join us on our re-launched Baby’s First Stay Away break (suitable for babies 12 weeks up to 18 months), and enjoy 2 hours of complimentary childcare, a Stork gift pack and all of the baby paraphernalia in the room on arrival – you CAN still have a relaxing break with a little one in tow – don’t believe it – give us a try!

6. Spring has Sprung

Spring is a lovely time to visit Fowey. The gardens are full of Spring bulbs, the blossom is on the trees and nature starts to burst into life. Visit the Eden Project (just a 15 minute drive) or the Lost Gardens of Heligan ( approx. 30 minutes drive) which all look beautiful at any time of year!

7. Easter fun

Did someone say bunnies? We have 4 beautiful rabbits in our courtyard area who love to say hello to our little visitors! Or if you are visiting us over the Easter weekend you can hop along to our Easter egg hunt on Easter Sunday. 

8. Fowey Festival of Art & Literature

Taking place from 8-16 May the exciting program includes talks, interviews, creative and practical workshops, exhibitions, presentations, theatre, musical concerts, an Art trail, guided walks and river cruises to enjoy, inform, challenge and inspire the imagination. 

9. Eden Sessions

Throughout June & July the world-renowned Eden Project host gigs to some great stars. An inspiring venue it is not to be missed. Already lined up for this year is Lionel Ritchie & The Script!

10. Fowey Royal Regatta

One of Britain’s best loved sailing events takes place in Fowey from 16-22 August 2020. It is also a fun-filled week for all the family with a Carnival procession, Giant Pasty ceremony, Flora Dance, fireworks displays, crab-catching competition, swimming races, pasty-eating competition and live entertainment every night – it’s a fantastic week not to be missed!

11. Fowey Hall Summer Fete

Roll up roll up! Our annual summer fete is back for its third year on Wednesday 19th August. As part of the Fowey Royal regatta week we host traditional fete games with Splat the rat and a coconut shy to name a few. Its free entry to all and you can join us on the terrace for a BBQ and pimms too!

12. There's always time for a glass of wine

We are lucky to have 3 great vineyards in close proximity, Camel Valley, Knightor Winery & Trevibban Mill. Not to mention Cornwall’s first plough to bottle gin and vodka distilleries at Colwith there is certainly something to get your taste buds flowing!

13. Make a splash

You cannot visit Fowey without taking to the water! Whether you hire kayaks for a trip down the river or take a more sedate boat trip there is something to suit everyone's pace.

14. Lazy hazy days of summer

Feeling exhausted? Lie-back by the outdoor hot tub in summer with a cheeky gin and tonic soaking in the beautiful sea views!

15. Walk on the Wild Side

Fowey is located on a beautiful stretch of the coastal path – why not head out to Gribben Head day mark or if you are feeling really fit walk to Polkerris – don’t worry there is a pub and restaurant to greet you when you arrive to quench your thirst!

16. Looe Live

Looe Live will take place from 25-27 September 2020 a three-day festival which provides a mix of music and community spirit that fills the streets – line up to be announced soon! 

17. Lights, camera, action

The nearby pretty town of Charlestown is a popular filming location. You may recognise it from scenes in Poldark, Alice in Wonderland, Rebecca, The Three Musketeers and Treasure Island.

18. Truro City of Lights

Hailing the start of the festive season on 18th November 2020 the Truro City of Lights parade is a spectacular illuminated procession through the streets, not to be missed!

19. Fowey Christmas Market

One of Cornwall’s most well-known Christmas events it’s a great place to get some handmade, local presents from some of the regions finest suppliers. Open from Friday evening until Sunday. Check back here for dates soon.

20. The festive season

The run up to Christmas can be hectic with presents to find, cakes to bake, decorations to put up, lights to untangle, school nativities and work parties to juggle. Why not let us do all the hard work so you don’t have to. Fowey Hall has a real country house feel at Christmas time with beautiful decorations, delicious food and the smell of mulled wine it’s a great way to spend a family Christmas with entertainment galore there surely will be something for everyone.

In between Christmas and New Year if you don’t want to be stuck in the ‘Chrimbo Limbo’ why not book a family break or perhaps welcome 2021 in with style at Fowey Hall. Instead of a traditional noisy disco or band we offer a relaxing few days where you can chill out and spend quality time as a family.
