Kids love to bake. If you have older children you can give them a simple recipe to follow or for the younger ones, they can simply help stir the ingredients and lick the bowl afterwards!

Brian our pastry chef recommends baking Chocolate Chip Cookies – its his favourite to cook with his 3 boys at home and the best bit is that’s its quick and easy!

Makes approx. 24

225g softened butter

200g caster sugar

225g soft dark brown sugar

2 eggs

1 dessert spoon vanilla essence

375g plain flour

1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda

1 dessert spoon hot water

½ teaspoon salt

350g dark chocolate chips

Mix together the butter, caster and brown sugar until smooth. Beat in the eggs one at a time then stir in the vanilla. Dissolve bicarbonate of soda in hot water. Add to mix along with the salt. Stir in flour and chocolate chips.

Drop large spoonful’s onto ungreased baking trays and bake in preheated 180 C oven for approx. 10 minutes or until edges are nicely browned

Offer to help

Get involved with community events whether it’s a charity fundraiser or beach clean – children love to help and get involved. It can be turned into a fun day out for the whole family by making sandcastles at the beach and if they’re really helpful –maybe even treat them to an ice cream!

Read a book

Reading is good for the soul, spend some time reading to your child and helping them to learn new words. You could even help them write their own story and they could do the illustrations from their summer adventures.

Experience the great outdoors, whether it be a nature walk to seek out bugs and flowers, bird watching in the garden or even flying a kite on the beach – there is always an adventure to be had!

Design & Get Crafty!

Try painting pebbles, making leaf characters or sky gliders to take to the sky. Why not take chalk out on the patio and draw fun pictures or if making a mess isn’t your thing how about a family picture taking contest instead?

If you can, book a last minute break away at a great family friendly hotel which can be fun for the kids and relaxing for parents we can recommend Luxury Family Hotels!!

Whatever you do this summer, make time for the little things and the memories will last a lifetime.
